Imam charge Nigerians on Prayers of Peace, Security and Unity…As part of its activities to celebrate her 24th anniversary, the Peace Corps of Nigeria had a Jumat service today in Abuja.
Chief Imam of the Kado Estate Jumat Mosque in the FCT Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu-Gumi has called on Nigerians, regardless of religion to pray strongly for the country’s peace, security and unity.
He made this call when officers of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, joined the Jumat prayer as part of its activities to celebrate the Organization ‘s 24th anniversary.
Dr. Shuaibu -Gumi, represented by Alhaji Ahmed Tugua-Mohammed stressed that the prayers for peaceful coexistence would be sustained until the aim was realized.
The National Commandant of the Peace Corps, Professor Dickson Akoh, represented by an Assistant National Commandant, Patriot Badamosi Kabir explained that the Corps target is the promotion of peace most especially as we prepare towards the 2023 general election in the country
Patriot Kabir said that the theme of the 24th anniversary: “2023 general election, the roles of Youths in security and Peace building” was deliberately chosen with the aim of sustained sensitization of youths to avoid violence and electoral malpractices.
Splashnewsng reports that the 24th anniversary celebration commenced with the launch of ‘fund fare’, an avenue for revenue generation, visit to the Medium Security Custodial Center Otukpo Benue State where inmates were set free, public lecture and would climax her anniversary this year with a church thanksgiving and dinner.
The Peace Corps of Nigeria, PCN, is a youth -based non Governmental Organization, with over one hundred and eighty thousand members across the Country whose mandate is to Empower, Develop and Provide Gainful Employment for the Youths, to Facilitate Peace, Volunteerism, Community Service, Neighbourhood Watch and Nation Building.The Corps is also known for its efforts in schools and colleges where its carry’s out sensitization programs against cultism and examination malpractices.
